California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act (“FEHA”) and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protect employees in protected classes from adverse employment actions.
According to California law, harassment creates a hostile, oppressive, or intimidating work environment, affecting the victim’s emotional well-being and job performance. Even a single incident of harassment can create a triable issue if it unreasonably interferes with work or creates a hostile environment.
Employers in California are required to take reasonable steps to prevent and address wrongful behavior in the workplace when they knew or should have known about the harassment.
